Meet David Hill: Conservative Leadership for Wyoming House District 50

I am a husband and father, and I am running for the Wyoming House of Representatives in District 50. My campaign is focused on effective leadership grounded in limited government, local control, personal liberty, accountability, and preserving Wyoming’s way of life for future generations.

I currently serve as President of the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce and have built my career around public service and strengthening our community. My legal experience includes work with the U.S. Attorney’s Offices for Wyoming and Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. I also served for five years as a drug court judge, helping participants pursue recovery while holding them accountable.

I have been named to the National Trial Lawyers “Top 40 Under 40,” recognized by Best Lawyers in America as “One to Watch,” and selected as a Wyoming Chamber of Commerce “Forty Under 40” honoree.

Outside my legal practice, I have served on several local boards, including the Park County Leadership Institute, Park County Sheriff’s Office Charitable Foundation, Bright Futures Mentoring, Northwest College Foundation, and Little Explorers Preschool. I have also coached youth baseball and flag football.

My wife and I have been married for more than ten years and are raising our three boys in Cody. They are central to my decision to run. Every decision we make should leave Wyoming better for the next generation. For me, that question is not theoretical. Our children will live with the long-term consequences of the decisions we make today.

I entered this race after encouragement from conservative community members who wanted effective leadership focused on results, strong representation, and protecting Wyoming’s values and way of life.

As I have spoken with voters across the district, several questions have come up regularly.

What is your approach to government?

I believe government works best when it stays within its proper role and decisions are made close to the people.

Government should protect individual rights, ensure public safety, provide essential services, and otherwise allow families, businesses, and communities the freedom to succeed.

I oppose unnecessary regulations and one-size-fits-all mandates from Cheyenne or Washington, D.C. Local communities understand their needs better than distant government officials.

What will you do about taxes and government spending?

Wyoming families work hard for what they earn, and government should treat every taxpayer dollar with respect.

I will fight to keep taxes low, control spending, eliminate waste, and ensure taxpayers are not treated as an endless source of revenue. Government should prioritize essential services before asking taxpayers to pay more.

Keeping Wyoming affordable also means addressing rising property taxes so longtime residents are not taxed out of their homes because of increasing property values.

Where do you stand on constitutional rights?

Our constitutional freedoms are not negotiable.

I will defend the Second Amendment, free speech, religious liberty, due process, private property rights, and the freedoms guaranteed by the United States and Wyoming Constitutions.

The Constitution limits government power and protects the rights of the people. Those protections must be defended even when doing so is difficult or politically unpopular.

What are your positions on families and protecting life?

Strong families are the foundation of strong communities.

As a husband and father, I understand that public policy affects real families and future generations. I support policies that strengthen families, protect children, respect parental rights, and preserve Wyoming as a safe and affordable place to raise a family.

I am pro-life and believe every human life has value. I will support reasonable and constitutionally sound policies that protect unborn children while providing compassion to women and families facing difficult circumstances.

How will you support Park County’s economy?

Wyoming’s economy is built on economic freedom and the industries that support our communities.

Tourism, agriculture, mining, energy, natural resources, and small businesses are essential to Park County. They create jobs, support families, generate revenue, and maintain our quality of life.

As President of the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce, I have worked directly to support local businesses to promote economic growth. In my legal practice, I help businesses navigate legal and operational challenges, giving me firsthand experience with the issues facing Wyoming employers and working families.

I support reducing unnecessary regulations, improving the permitting process, strengthening our workforce, and allowing businesses to grow without unnecessary government interference.

What is your position on education?

A better education begins with parents and students.

Parents do not simply have a right to oversee their children’s education; they have a responsibility to do so. Every child is different, and families should have the freedom to choose the educational setting that best meets their needs.

My children attend local public schools, and I know Park County educators care deeply about their students. I support teachers and parents working together while keeping educational decisions close to home.

Education policy should focus on student achievement, parental involvement, local control, and preparing students for successful futures.

Will you protect Wyoming’s public lands?

Yes. Wyoming’s public lands should remain public.

As a hunter and outdoorsman, I understand the importance of public access and the role these lands play in our culture, economy, and way of life. I will oppose efforts to sell or transfer public lands in ways that could reduce public access.

I support responsible stewardship and multiple use, including recreation, hunting, grazing, responsible resource development, and conservation. These interests can coexist through sound management and meaningful local input.

Why are you running?

I am running because Wyoming’s future is worth protecting.

I want Park County to have a representative who listens, works hard, understands the issues, and focuses on meaningful results rather than political division.

Most importantly, I want future generations to inherit the freedom, opportunity, safety, strong communities, and quality of life that make Wyoming an exceptional place to live.

My goal is simple: leave Wyoming better than we found it, and ensure the next generation has every opportunity to build a good life right here at home.
