Yellowstone Film Festival Announces New October 2026 Dates
The Yellowstone Film Festival has announced that its 2026 event will now take place October 9 through October 11, 2026, rather than the originally scheduled August dates.
The festival celebrates independent filmmaking while providing a platform for filmmakers from Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho to share their stories in Cody, one of the American West’s most iconic artistic communities.
Founded by lifelong Cody resident, filmmaker, actor, musician, and passionate cinephile Jacob Graham, the Yellowstone Film Festival was created to elevate the voices, landscapes, cultures, and stories that define the Rocky Mountain West.
Following Jake’s recent passing, festival organizers made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s event. The additional time allows his family, friends, and the Cody community an opportunity to honor his memory while ensuring the festival continues in a way that reflects the vision, passion, and spirit he brought to its creation.
“We sincerely appreciate the understanding and support of our filmmakers, partners, sponsors, and community,” said Festival President Brett Straniere. “By moving the festival to October, we can honor Jake’s legacy while continuing the celebration of independent filmmaking that meant so much to him.”
The submission deadline has been extended to September 18, and filmmakers from across the United States are welcome to submit their work. Special recognition will continue to be given to filmmakers and student filmmakers from Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.
Presented by Big Horn Cinemas, the nonprofit festival will feature narrative features, documentaries, short films, and student productions. In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, all films screened during the 2026 festival will be created by U.S.-based filmmakers.
“Outstanding filmmakers are creating remarkable work throughout Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, yet many do not have enough opportunities to present their films to audiences,” Straniere said. “The Yellowstone Film Festival was created to provide that opportunity while celebrating the creativity and stories of the American West.”

Located at the East Entrance to Yellowstone National Park, Cody offers an inspiring setting for filmmakers and visitors alike, blending Western heritage, arts, culture, and breathtaking scenery.
