A Letter to the Voters of House District 24: Gratitude

As this election draws to a close, I find myself filled with gratitude.

I am grateful for everyone who took part, regardless of who they support, and for those who serve our community, our state and our country. Those who give their time to churches, volunteer organizations and causes they believe in. Those who work hard for their families and friends, and through careers that make a difference.

That is what builds a community.

I am grateful, too, for the generations who came before us, who built Cody, ran our businesses, served our community, raised families, volunteered and established the traditions we still cherish. We inherited something special because they cared enough to work for it, protect it and pass it on. Now it is our responsibility to do the same.

Win or lose, this campaign has been an incredible experience.

I have visited with more than 1,000 people at their doors. I have heard their concerns, hopes and dreams. I have been challenged, encouraged and, most importantly, educated by my friends and neighbors.

Thank you to those who supported me, contributed financially, volunteered, shared posts and hosted signs. Thank you to those who opened their homes, their minds and gave their time to hear me out.

And thank you to those who opposed me. You challenged me to sharpen my arguments, examine my beliefs and deepen my understanding of the issues facing Wyoming, Park County and our community.

Even the few who slammed a door in my face presented an opportunity to find humility, build resilience and practice empathy. Not everyone sees the world the way I do, and representation begins with understanding that.

Most personally, thank you to Brittania, Quin and Ruthie.

Brittania, thank you for the late nights, the hard work, the encouragement and the companionship. Thank you for standing beside me and finding the grace to turn the other cheek when people questioned our family and the life we are building together. I could not ask for a better teammate. I am forever grateful that we found our way to each other and have worked together to build this life.

Quin, thank you for the big hugs, the “miss you so much,” the “little bit stay’s,” and the Play-Doh pick-me-ups after hard days. No matter how difficult the day had been, coming home to you put everything back in perspective. You reminded me again and again what matters most.

Ruthie, thank you for the morning squawks and the reminder each day that the day ahead was worth meeting with everything I had. You may be too young to remember any of this, but you gave me one more reason every morning to make the day count.

This campaign will soon be over. Whatever happens on Election Day, I will be stronger for having gone through it. I will know my community better, understand my neighbors better and be even more committed to this place we all call home.

Win or lose, I will keep showing up. I will keep fighting for our community, standing up for what I believe in and putting in the work to make Park County stronger and our future brighter.

Thank you for the conversations, the disagreements, the encouragement and the time.

Most of all, thank you for caring enough to take part.
