The Story Behind the Click: Cody Peak Aerial

Nov 15, 2024

Taking photos from a plane quickly became a passion after my first flight. Many thanks to the friend who encouraged me to try it. Since then, I’ve taken multiple flights in the area and never tire of seeing the beauty of this world from above.

Usually, the flights I take for photos are on severe clear days so the sun can shine deep into the pools in Yellowstone. But on this flight, magnificent clouds created atmospheric conditions that took my breath away. The whole flight was magical. Only the pilot, me, and my camera. We had spent about three hours already in the air and were on our way back down the North Fork of the Shoshone to Cody. Due to the clouds, we came out through Jones Pass instead of Sylvan Pass. Jones Pass is slightly lower.

As we passed Crow Creek, the sun illuminated Cody Peak. In the background, you can also see a favorite peak to hike – Avalanche Peak with Hoyt Peak right next to it. Scenes like this have me itching to get back in the air again. These brief moments can never be captured again but live on through the art of the camera.

You can find this and more of my work at SnowMoon Photography where a sale is currently underway.
