Cody Visitor Center Gets a Makeover

May 1, 2026

Walking into the Visitor Center located in the Chamber of Commerce Building, you’ll be greeted with a much more elegant look. The entire space has been remodeled and redesigned to be more effective at promoting the area.

The reception desks now have a smaller footprint and have been moved to the fireplace side of the room. This opens the space to make two larger tables with maps under glass, the focal point. In addition, moving the reception desks creates more wall space for rack cards and information brochures to promote businesses and shopping/staying in Cody.

The remodel included flooring, walls, ceilings, and lighting. All of which gives the space an updated feel, putting Cody’s best foot forward to welcome visitors to the area.

Cody’s Visitor Center is a Collaborative Effort

Cody’s visitor center exists through a collaborative effort. The City of Cody owns the historic building, maintains it, and rents it to tenants. The building was originally donated (along with the land for City Park) by
Paul Stock for the purpose of promoting the City’s economy. It does so by housing the Chamber of Commerce (local businesses), the Visitor Center (tourism), and CodyArts (the creative economy).

The Chamber and Park County Travel Council (PCTC) work together to run the Visitor Center. The Chamber oversees operations, and PCTC provides a grant for the Visitor Center staff’s salaries, supplies, and advertising. The staff handles all calls requesting information about Cody generated by PCTC’s marketing efforts. In addition, they mail out the PCTC brochures, with over 30,000 mailed out in 2025.

How the Remodel Came About

Last fall, the City of Cody replaced many of the windows in the historic building, making it much more energy efficient. They also repaired a roof issue on the CodyArts side of the building and will re-chink and re-stain the logs this May.

With upgrades to the exterior, Jennifer Thoma, executive director of the Cody Chamber of Commerce, approached PCTC to see if there might be funds available to make improvements to the Visitor Center. After that discussion, PCTC voted to give a Destination Development grant to remodel the interior, and Thoma oversaw the redesign.
