Wyoming PBS to Host Screening of Award-Winning ‘Call of the West’ Documentary in Cody

Wyoming PBS invites the community to a free screening of its new documentary, “Call of the West,” on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Cody Theatre. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a special reception at the Dude Ranch Museum, followed by the film screening at 6 p.m. Doors open at the theatre at 5:30 p.m.

At the Dude Ranch Museum, 1122 12th St., guests will have a final opportunity to view The Wrangle: 100 Years of Dude Ranching. This acclaimed exhibition brings the history of dude ranching to life through Scott T. Baxter’s photography of the 26 ranches that have endured for a century or more. After checking out the exhibit, guests can cross the street to the Cody Theatre, 1171 Sheridan Ave., for the screening.

“The Dude Ranchers’ Association has had an incredible year celebrating our 100th Anniversary,” says Executive Director Bryce Albright. “The ‘Call of the West’ documentary has been a special part of our centennial celebration and truly documents our legacy. We are grateful for Wyoming PBS to help tell the story of dude ranching as we enter into the next century.”

The Dude Ranchers’ Association will also offer door prize giveaways in celebration of its centennial. The screening is free and open to the public.

“Call of the West” recently earned a Public Media Award from the National Educational Telecommunications Association in the Independent Producer category. Directed and produced by Alpheus Media for Wyoming PBS, the film explores the legacy and future of the American dude ranch.

Filmed at working dude ranches in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and Arizona, the documentary follows ranch families and operators as they preserve Western traditions while navigating changing tourism expectations, economic pressures, and generational change.

Featured in the film are Eatons’ Ranch and Triangle X Ranch in Wyoming, Flathead Lake Lodge and Nine Quarter Circle Ranch in Montana, White Stallion Ranch in Arizona, and Bar Lazy J Ranch and Drowsy Water Ranch in Colorado.
