Big City Selection, Small Town Service: Cody Jewelers Turns 30

Cody Jewelers turns 30 this fall. When I think about what that actually means, it isn’t the years. It’s the relationships. The vendors we’ve worked with for decades, the artists whose work we get to showcase, and the customers who return to our shop for the next chapter of their lives.

We’re Cody’s full-service jeweler, and I mean that in both directions. What happens after a piece leaves the store matters as much as what happens before.

I really like to think that we have big city selection with small town craftsmanship and small town customer service.

What we Carry

We pull from vendors all over the country, and everything we carry is handmade in the United States. Metals, price points, gemstone types, we’ve built the selection to cover a lot of ground. We’re also your local source for diamonds, both lab-grown and natural.

We hold the exclusive on silversmithing work by Alisa Stewart, which is one of my favorite collections in the store. Promoting local artists is something we care about, and her work is a big part of that.

We also hold the exclusive on our new Cody Stone line, made from gold and silver ore originally mined from Buffalo Bill Cody’s mine in Arizona. That material left this region more than a century ago. Bringing it back here, into pieces made for people who live in the town Cody founded, feels like a homecoming.

Then there’s our own signature line, which we’ve built over the last 30 years. Our steamboat cowboy pendants and our buffalo collection came out of that work. Between all of it, we really like to think that we have a little something for everybody, no matter what your budget or style may be.

Sourcing From a Small Mountain Town

We’re a member of the Independent Jewelers Organization, which opens up relationships with vendors nationwide. We attend two to four jewelry conferences a year, and I’m on the phone with vendors nearly every week. Getting to see them in person is one of my favorite parts of the job.

What that network means for you is that our inventory isn’t limited to what’s in the case. If I don’t have it, I can source it. Colored gemstones from specific mining localities. Investment grade stones and pieces that are often hard for other retailers to get hold of. Montana sapphires we carry regularly.

Even though we’re in little old Cody, Wyoming, the amount of product and the different types of product that I’m able to source and bring into our shop is as if I was running a major jewelry store in New York City or Los Angeles.

Those same relationships let us keep the store fresh. Swapping inventory with vendors and bringing in new pieces is one of the things I enjoy most about managing here.

Antwerp in October

Here’s the service that sets us apart from most independent jewelers. We have relationships with diamond houses in Antwerp, Belgium, home of the world diamond exchange.

Once a year, we go. We take pre-orders before the trip, then hand-select the finest quality diamonds at the best possible prices, in person, on the ground. And you don’t have to take our word for what we’re looking at. We FaceTime our customers and send photographs directly from the diamond house sales floors while we’re standing there.

This experience truly is unique to the jewelry industry, not just Cody.

The Full Life of a Piece

When you buy something here, I’ll follow you through the entire life of that piece. That means complimentary cleanings and repairs, and it means we’re here for appraisals, prong work, and general maintenance. We also handle timepiece battery replacement.

Our goldsmith has been with the company for more than 20 years and he is an absolute master. No matter how big or how small the repair is, from prong work to a complete overhaul, we can do it.

My goldsmith is also, in my opinion, one of the best custom goldsmiths in all of Wyoming. If you can think it or dream it, we can create it.

Think of us as Your Stylist

Keeping up on trends is another part of this work I genuinely enjoy. Colors, gemstone varieties, cuts, settings, and the mixing and matching of metals, which has gotten very popular and which I think we have a very good selection of.

You can almost think of us as your stylist with jewelry. We’ll help you create the perfect stack, the perfect pieces to celebrate the most special moments in your life, because each piece of jewelry truly helps our customers tell their story.

Trunk Shows and our Community Appreciation

We host trunk shows with our vendors throughout the year, and they’re worth watching for. A lot of what comes in is one of a kind, and we usually offer some kind of discount during the events. Our annual community appreciation party is back again this November.
