Bring your friends and neighbors. See you Friday.
What Happened
Lightning struck the house on August 15. A neighbor witnessed it and called 911. After spending time with family up on the North Fork, Amanda Keyes drove home to find smoke coming from her house. Opening the door, she saw flames.
Within hours, her home, built by her husband, who passed in 2020 from cancer, was a complete loss along with the loss of some beloved pets. Currently living with her aunt in Ralston, she and her family are working to remodel a small cabin that was on another portion of the property.
About Amanda
Amanda Keyes, born Amanda Asay, is a Wyoming girl through and through. She grew up in Powell with her two younger brothers, graduated from Powell High School and Northwest College, and has built her life and raised her family in the community she has always called home.
Amanda works as the Executive Administrator for the Park County Travel Council, where she supports and promotes the area that means so much to her. Park County isn’t just where Amanda works; it’s home. It’s where she grew up, where she has raised her children, and where so many of the people who have been part of her family’s story live.
More than anything, Amanda is a devoted mom to her three children, who are truly the center of her world. Ethan, 23, is attending the University of Wyoming and studying engineering as he works toward building a future of his own. Wyatt, 13, is an energetic young man who loves dirt bikes, spending time outdoors, and unwinding with his favorite video games. Lilli, 11, has a huge heart for animals and especially loves horses and caring for all of her farm animals. Each of her children has their own unique personality and interests, and watching them grow into who they are has always been one of Amanda’s greatest joys.
Amanda and her children have experienced more loss in a few short years than most families can imagine. In 2020, Amanda lost her husband, Scott, to cancer. Scott loved her children as his own, and he was an incredibly important part of their family. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, and memories.
Tragedy Strikes Again
Then, on August 15, the unimaginable happened again.
A lightning strike caused a devastating fire that destroyed the family’s home. This was the home Scott built before he passed away. Amanda and her children lost nearly everything. Tragically, they also lost some very loved members of their family: two dogs, three cats, and a tortoise.
Losing a home is heartbreaking under any circumstances, but for Amanda and her children, this house meant so much more. It was something Scott had built for their family by hand. Every room held memories of the life they had shared with him, making the loss especially difficult.
Now Amanda is doing what she has always done—putting her children first and finding a way forward. She is working to rebuild not only a house, but a sense of home, comfort, and stability for Ethan, Wyatt, and Lilli.
