The Story Behind “Together”
January 1, 2025 was a very chilly day to spend outside on a long wagon ride, but ride we did. Riding along in a buckboard wagon, gives you a really good idea of what the pioneers faced when they spent hours every day in a very rough riding wagon, even even if it has shocks on the seats.
One interesting fact about a good draft horse team is that when the two horses pull a load together, they don’t just pull 16,000 pounds, but the team of two can pull 22,000 pounds. If that isn’t impressive enough, when they train together, they can pull up to 32,000 pounds. There is an African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
These horses get to know each other well enough over time working together, and a good team will form a special bond. You can see this special bond by watching the interaction as they pull and work together to keep the wagon out of the ruts and where it is supposed to be. They form a United Front. Supporting each other, sharing responsibilities, and making decisions collaboratively, to navigate challenges and to achieve a common goal. We can learn much from draft horses.
And, here’s another shot from that day, “Teamwork.”

I started out my photography journey with rodeo photography. I shot all kinds of rodeos, from Jr. Rodeos to Extreme Bulls events. From the time I was a little girl however, I watched every Wild Animal show I could find on TV, and I was obsessed with horses. I guess you could say nothing has changed. I moved to this photographers paradise that is Wyoming in 2010, and fell in love. It feels like I live in a zoo, with the variety of wildlife all around me. My favorite things to photograph are Bears, Moose, Bison and Elk just to name a few, and I also love to photograph the beauty of Landscapes. I feel so Blessed to get to capture some of the beauty that God created for us to enjoy. Follow me on Facebook and Instagram.
