The Story Behind “Crabapple Spring”
Throughout my life, friends and family have sometimes been confused by some of the photos I take. What prompts me to pick up the camera to capture a moment?
The image, “Crabapple Spring,” was taken of an ornamental crabapple tree in front of where I live. While there are other flowering trees I might have focused on, crabapple trees capture my heart. You see, my favorite jelly is crabapple jelly. While growing up, we would usually come to Cody in August where I’d spend time on a ladder, harvesting crab apples (the good kind for jelly) from a tree in my grandmother’s yard on Canyon Ave. I relished the peace of the activity and time spent here in Cody.
The tree that gave our family jars and jars of ruby red jelly is long gone. It was planted far too close to the house. So, ever since, I find myself taking photos of crabapple blossoms each spring – just because of the warm memories and the beauty of spring. This one turned out especially pleasing to me and makes me smile every time when I find myself longing to see the snow leave.
