Funding for the Wyoming State Shooting Complex Passes

Mar 7, 2025

The Wyoming State Shooting Complex Working Group is pleased to announce that funding for the Wyoming State Shooting Complex project has been passed by the 68th Legislature. The bill funding the complex, Senate File 169, awaits signature by Governor Mark Gordon to officially release $10 million in funding.

After a 2-year selection process, the task force recommended a 2,000+ acre state parcel located in Park County to host the State Shooting Complex. The venue is envisioned to open in 2026/2027 as a premier destination for shooting sports, offering state-of-the-art facilities for competitive shooting, training, education, and public use. Plans include hosting 15-20 regional and national events attracting over 10,000 visitors annually, creating a substantial economic impact through tourism, hospitality, outdoor, and firearm industries throughout Wyoming.

Thank you to our local, statewide Legislators for their unwavering support in moving this project to the Governor’s desk. Governor Gordon has maintained support since his appointment of a statewide task force in 2023 to build a world class shooting complex in Wyoming. The State Shooting Complex Working Group is looking forward to the Governor’s signature.

Advocating for the complex Glenn Ross, of Forward Cody said, “Our working group and community have been working diligently for well over a year to accomplish Wyoming’s vision – to build a world-class shooting facility. The primary purpose of the complex is to increase education and economic opportunities associated with the shooting sports and firearms industry in Wyoming.”

The complex will significantly boost the state economy and enhance recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. “…we see not only growth in the tourism related businesses, but growth in the firearms and outdoor products industry. It’s going to be a win for the whole State of Wyoming.” said James Klessens, former CEO/President of Forward Cody.

Bruce Sauers from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West added, “This project is expected to become a premier destination for shooting sports and outdoor recreation. The complex will elevate Wyoming’s reputation as a destination for shooting sports, and also generate substantial economic benefits for business and industry statewide.”

The working group, with the support of Forward Cody, local leaders and the community, remains committed to bringing this vision to life and creating new opportunities for economic growth and tourism. Jake Hogan, the current CEO/President of Forward Cody stated, “We look forward to welcoming thousands of visitors annually and contributing to Wyoming’s economy for years to come – this is a win for the entire State of Wyoming.”
