Sam Lightner, an acclaimed author and climber who has written extensively about the American West, will present on his latest book, In the Valley of the Warm Winds. The book traces the life of Eastern Shoshone Chief Washakie and explores how his leadership, diplomacy, and vision shaped Wyoming history during a pivotal era of western expansion. During the presentation, Sam will discuss the research and storytelling behind the book, including insights into the famed Crowheart Butte Battle and the larger historical figures who intersected with Washakie’s story, from Jim Bridger and Brigham Young to Crazy Horse and Abraham Lincoln. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing following the talk.
