Cody and Park County to Commemorate America 250 with “Two Lights for Tomorrow” Event
Cody, WY – April 2, 2025 – The City of Cody and Park County will join a nationwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States with the “Two Lights for Tomorrow” event on April 18, 2025, at 7:30 PM on 12th Street in Cody, Wyoming.
The event, part of the larger America 250 project, will begin the celebration of this milestone by remembering the historic events of April 18, 1775, specifically the ride of Paul Revere. Two lights will be prominently displayed at The Irma, symbolizing the two lanterns that signaled the British troop movement in Boston, as immortalized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, “Paul Revere’s Ride”. The gathering will feature patriotic music, proclamations, and community building.
Proclamations from City of Cody and Park County
The City of Cody and Park County officially recognized the significance of this event by issuing proclamations on April 1, 2025, in support of the “Two Lights for Tomorrow” initiative. These proclamations acknowledge the importance of commemorating the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding and reminding citizens of the core principles that shaped the country.
“This event is a powerful reminder of the unity and shared purpose that has been a cornerstone of our nation since its founding. It’s an opportunity for our community to come together, reflect on our history, and look forward to a bright future,” said Park County Commissioner Dossie Overfield.
About Two Lights for Tomorrow and America 250
“Two Lights for Tomorrow” is a nationwide initiative that calls for the display of two lights in homes and businesses as a visual reminder of the ongoing effort to build a “more perfect union.” It serves as a call to action for citizens to celebrate and serve their communities.
The America 250 project is a national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. It aims to honor the nation’s history, celebrate its achievements, and inspire future generations. The project encourages communities across the country to participate in events and initiatives that reflect the historical significance of the founding principles.
The City of Cody’s proclamation highlights that the events of 1775, which started the revolution, were significant moments that signaled the creation of a national identity and a unity of purpose that broke through traditional divides. It also notes that this initiative is not just about remembering history, but also about encouraging reflection on the pursuit of a better tomorrow, together.
“The need for unity and the call to serve our community is no less relevant today than it was 250 years ago when Paul Revere rode to ignite the fire of freedom. Let us not forget who we are as a nation and how fortunate we are to live free. Let us not forget the lives lost to win our freedom and hold on to the spirit of working together for the common good despite our differences. Patrick Henry, in the throes of tyranny and an extremely uncertain future stated, “I know not what course others may take; but for me, give me liberty, or give me death”. We encourage you to show your support for the courageous leadership that founded this nation by proudly displaying two lights in your window April 18 and may our nation’s patriotic spirit live on.” declared Mayor Lee Ann Reiter.
