Thanksgiving Letter from the Editor

Nov 28, 2025

As the holiday season ramps up, I love that we begin with gratitude. Giving thanks. And there is much to give thanks for in this vibrant community surrounded by such beauty.

I sincerely appreciate the opportunities Cody Journal gives me to connect with so many in town that I wouldn’t otherwise have the honor of knowing. It is a true joy to work with so many good people. I appreciate my team, the advertisers, and those adding to the tip jar that allow the work to happen, as well as the audience.

I’ve been mulling for years over what makes Cody what it is. Gathering is at the heart of who we are. Keeping up with the events is a huge undertaking, but as a visitor said, “Cody is the epicenter of events.” This likely came about because of Cody’s unusual beginnings. It didn’t start as a farming or ranching community, but was born out of fame (Buffalo Bill), fortune (Investors), and the early connection to the socialites in the east. With the later oil influence in the area, we had people moving here from larger cities used to an active social life.

While much of the way we gather has changed, this town still loves to gather. It’s no longer so much the social and service clubs (Rotary, Lions, Elks, Masons, etc.) providing a place to connect, though they still do. Instead, businesses have stepped up to the plate to provide connection. Looking at the sheer number of events and all it takes to make them happen is astounding. But we’re good at throwing parties – especially when there’s a good cause to rally around. Many thanks to all who help bring so many events to the community.

It’s wonderful to watch Cody gather and I’m grateful to have a small part by making it easier to find events. Connection and community are a large part of what keeps Cody, Cody. When you are out this Holiday Season, thank those who help make the events happen.

Happy Holidays!
