Update on the Webcams at the East Entrance

Aug 8, 2025

Everyone has patiently waited for the East Gate cameras to show on the Yellowstone Webcams page. Cody Journal covered this story originally last January. So what’s happened so far?

Progress on this project has happened. The National Park Service (NPS) installed the cameras in early July. They are currently working on the next approval step, so they can go live. Yellowstone’s NPS has submitted the request for approval and area waiting to hear back. They, too, are looking forward to having this extra view at the East Entrance.

While no firm date is known for when the cameras will be on the webpage, we can all watch for them regularly. The good news is that they should be live this winter for those interested in the weather conditions before heading up to Pahaska to go skiing this winter and we can watch the snowmobiles heading in each day.

Currently there are webcams at Yellowstone’s North and West Entrances. Adding in more entrances will help visitors to the area have a better idea of which gateway entrance to use as their basecamp.

The cameras were paid for by a grant to the Cody Chamber of Commerce by Park County Travel Council (PCTC) using Destination Development funds. The Chamber then donated the grant funds to Yellowstone Forever, Yellowstone’s official non-profit partner. They purchased the cameras outlined in the grant and ensured delivery to the NPS team that installed them. The cameras are now owned and will be maintained by the National Park Service, allowing the feed to be public.
