The Story Behind: A Mother’s Love
There is nothing more powerful than a mother’s love. On this chilly fall day, near Bridge Bay, a small group of cow-calf pairs hung out near the road. A bit of frost still clung to their fur, and I slowed to see what image I could find.
They were more on alert than I normally see with buffalo, and all the calves were incredibly close to their mothers. None were playing and butting heads or even wandering the area.
One of the cows in this group (that did not have a calf with her), had lost the tip of one horn. That horn and her head were covered in drying blood. A good guess is that she was protecting herself or a calf. Whatever the story behind that, some animal out there was in a world of hurt.
However, this mother of this calf kept a watchful eye out as her calf nursed, ready to instantly switch from lovingly nurturing to fiercely protecting in a heartbeat – just as mothers do. Happy Mother’s Day to all women who fiercely protect their children.
