November 11 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

The Buffalo Bill Center of the West is offering an online professional development intensive titled “Sovereignty and Tribal Government” from November 10 through November 12, 2026. Led by Instructor of Record Heather Bender, Native Education Outreach Specialist, the interactive course is open to all Wyoming educators and provides 0.5 Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) credits across seven hours of instruction delivered via live Zoom sessions.

Participants will collaborate with museum educators, curators, historians, and Indigenous knowledge keepers to explore curated historical materials, engage in culturally responsive pedagogical strategies, translate resources into inquiry-based lesson plans, and build a collaborative Professional Learning Community (PLC) supporting Indian Education for All curricula.

Daily Course Agenda:

  • Tuesday, November 10: Cultural Competency; Treaties and the Reservation Era
  • Wednesday, November 11: IRA and Non-IRA Tribal Governments; Intersections with Federal, State, and Local Governments
  • Thursday, November 12: Court Cases and Tribal Law; Contemporary Issues

Course tuition is $50, which includes direct access to curated Center of the West educational resources and classroom-ready materials. Space is limited to maintain an interactive workshop setting.

Registration is required. Click here to register and reserve your spot through the Buffalo Bill Center of the West ticket portal.
