SUMMARY:Book Signing: Brooks Roddan
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome Brooks Rodman\, author and publisher of “The Life and Times of Charles J. Belden\, Cowboy Photographer”\, the first monograph to be published featuring the work of the legendary Wyoming photographer. We encourage you to call and reserve a copy of this book\, supplies may be limited. \nPublisher Notes:\nBelden belongs to that great tradition of world-class photographers—Carelton Watkins\, Ansel Adams\, Paul Strand\, Edward Weston\, and Berenice Abbot come to mind\,” says publisher Brooks Roddan whose independent press\, IFSF Publishing\, is located in San Francisco and northwest Wyoming. “We’re thrilled to be bringing the book out\, a long-time labor of love\, the result of a real collaborative effort of people aware of Belden’s work. New readers will discover for the first time an artist whose photographs are a vivid\, authentically iconic portrait of the American West.”\n“We were happily surprised to learn that a book on Belden hadn’t yet been done\,” says Roddan.\n“I’ve been traveling around Wyoming for years\, and it was as if I kept seeing Belden images whenever I was there—they get into your soul\, it’s like you can’t stop seeing them. Belden’s life story too is a kind of saga—eventful\, adventurous\, daring\, a series of episodes that a feature-length movie could be made of—a ‘Grand Tour’ of a life.” \nBelden\, born in San Francisco in 1887\, became co-owner of the legendary Pitchfork Ranch in Meeteetse\, Wyoming\, with his then-partner Eugene Phelps. Belden and Phelps ran the ranch from the early 1920s until Belden left Wyoming and moved to Florida in 1940. Belden’s black and white photos were often featured in national newspapers and magazines\, including the New York Times\, National Geographic\, the Denver Post\, and many other publications\, quickly establishing in the public imagination the image of a West of endless skies\, vast landscapes where herds of cattle\, buffalo\, and antelope roamed\, the ranch-hands sitting beside the campfire. \nThe Life and Times of Charles J. Belden\, Cowboy Photographer\, features more than 80 photographic reproductions\, digitally created from Belden’s original glass plate negatives\, essays by Mack Frost and publisher Roddan\, and a timeline documenting Belden’s life and times from 1888–1966. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:Art Walk Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:We hope you’ll stop by during the annual Art Walk to visit with Lea Schoenewald about her book documenting the early days of Gebo\, Crosby & Kirby. \nForging America’s Fuel Henry Cottle registered the first mining claim in what would become northern Hot Springs County in the late 1880s. Henry Monro and Frank Porter’s Cedar Mountain “Cowboy Mine” followed in 1898. In 1906\, Burlington Railroad built its southbound line from Billings\, Montana to Frannie and Worland\, Wyoming. The route was\, in no small part\, because of the quality and quantity of coal near Kirby. With a rail contract for a twenty-mile extension\, Mormon pioneer Jesse W. Crosby\, Jr. filed his mining claim in 1910. Naturally\, more entrepreneurs followed\, including Samuel Gebo. The coal camps of Gebo and Crosby were born\, forming a significant coal district that nurtured a true melting pot of nationalities. Author Lea Cavalli Schoenewald recounts the area’s heyday and the lives that powered its development \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:Book Signing – Chris Wimmer
DESCRIPTION:CHRIS WIMMER is the creator\, host\, and lead writer of “Legends of the Old West\,” a long-form\, narrative podcast that tells true stories of the American West. He has a master’s degree in journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University and has won numerous local\, state\, and national awards for his writing. The Summer of 1876 is his first book.\nThe summer of 1876 was a key time period in the development of the mythology of the Old West. Many individuals who are considered legends by modern readers were involved in events that began their notoriety or turned out to be the most famous — or infamous — moments of their lives. Those individuals were Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer\, Sitting Bull\, Crazy Horse\, Wyatt Earp\, Bat Masterson\, Wild Bill Hickok\, and Jesse James. \n“The Summer of 1876” weaves together the timelines of the events that made these men legends to demonstrate the overlapping context of their stories and to illustrate the historical importance of that summer\, all layered with highlights of significant milestones in 1876: the inaugural baseball season of the National League; the final year of President Ulysses S. Grant’s embattled administration; the debut of an invention called the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell; the release of Mark Twain’s novel “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer;” and many more. \nContextualizing these events against the backdrop of the massive 100th anniversary party thrown to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence\, “The Summer of 1876” is the ultimate exploration and celebration of the summer that defined the West. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:Cassandra Joelle Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a hilarious Christian romantic comedy as we follow the journey of a thirty-something introverted woman\, Katie Fitzgerald\, who’s longing for a husband. But when she accidentally adopts a dog\, she discovers that love comes in unexpected ways\, and that God’s timing is always perfect. \nPlease come to Legends to visit with Cody’s newest author! She writes under the pen name of Cassandra Joelle\, but you know her as Cassandra Wagler. Cassandra discovered her passion for writing at the age of seven when she purchased a kitten diary at the Scholastic Book Fair. What began with hilarious journal entries about her school and home life later evolved into a collection of hundreds of poems\, short stories\, and novels. Her hobbies include skiing\, traveling around the Rocky Mountains\, and exploring Wyoming. Hans Zimmer’s music serves as her favorite writing companion. Much of her writing inspiration stems from her mother’s maternal heritage of Onondaga. Cassandra’s favorite genres of books are Christian Thrillers\, Native American literature\, and anything British. She is a full-time writer and resides in Wyoming with her husband\, Chad. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.
