SUMMARY:Tours & Toddies: Ian Munsick & Voices of the West
DESCRIPTION:“Some of the best kept secrets are out there\, thriving\, where the prairie meets the mountains.”\n-Ian Munsick\, 2023 \nJoin Exclusive Tours on September 4th at 6pm for a Deluxe Tours & Toddies program\, featuring the pivotal “White Buffalo: Voices of the West” documentary and figures like Ian Munsick\, Stephen Yellowtail\, and Rylon Bird who bring their western stories to the big screen. \nEncounter powerful symbolism\, stories\, and timeless traditions of the Munsick and Bird families when you attend this Deluxe Tours & Toddies. \nThis Deluxe Tours & Toddies includes a screening of Ian Munsick’s “White Buffalo: Voices of the West\,” produced by Caroline Munsick and Warner Music Nashville\, followed by a viewing of the short film titled “The Return\,” produced by Rylon Bird with Valley of the Chiefs Productions. “Voices of the West” explores the legacy of the Native American cowboy and the contemporary people who continue to work their land\, while “The Return” complements these stories by exploring the intricate connections between humans and the landscapes\, their daily experiences as well as historical connections. \nWhere William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody shared the west through his showmanship and activism for western causes; Munsick brings the message of the west to worldwide audiences through his award-winning music and documentary. \nAfter the screenings\, program attendees can participate in a Question-and-Answer session with a panel of individuals involved in the development of these films and the important stories they tell. The panel discussion invites audience members to contribute their questions and insights while offering a platform to recognize the integral role Native Americans have played in shaping cowboy traditions and culture. \nPanelists include:\n• Ian Munsick: Country music star\, Wyoming native\, adopted member of Greasy Mouth Clan-Crow\n• Caroline Munsick: Owner of “Not A Public Figure” Music Management & Brand\n• Rylon Bird: Director\, cinematographer\, owner of Valley of the Chiefs Productions\, Crow Nation Tribe\n• Hunter Old Elk: Assistant Curator of the Plains Indian Museum\, Crow and Yakama Nations \nTickets for this evening’s program include custom charcuterie\, cowboy desserts\, and non-alcoholic beverages of lemonade\, coffee\, and water. SUMMARY:Park County Open Lands Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Join Park County Open Lands for an evening of short films exploring what it means to leave a legacy in North America’s working wild. We’ll explore the value private lands provide for wildlife\, whether it be cutthroat trout or grizzly bears\, and meet farmers and ranchers who are thinking carefully about the legacy they will leave. Whether the legacy is simply transitioning the farm or ranch to the next generation\, restoring San Juan cutthroat trout to private lands in Colorado\, or remaining profitable as a ranch alongside grizzly bears in Montana\, the ranchers\, farmers\, and wildlife biologists in these films contemplate the value of private lands and their future. From Montana\, Colorado\, Ontario\, Nebraska\, and Montana\, to right here in Park County\, these short films tell the stories of everyday conservationists whose landscapes are their livelihoods. \nTickets are FREE\, but you must register in advance as we expect to fill up the Cody Theatre. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:Deluxe Tours and Toddies Workshop: Women’s Handwork in the West
DESCRIPTION:Explore how women’s hands shaped the history of the American West\, crafting both survival and art in every stitch!\nJoin Exclusive Tours and Wyoming Yarn & Fiber on Saturday\, March 8th at 2p.m. for a Deluxe Tours & Toddies event at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. This program features author and expert craftswoman Dr. Karen Penders St. Clair who will guide participants in exploring the history and modern role of Women’s Handwork in the West.\nKaren is a history enthusiast and fourth-generation needleworker proficient in knitting\, crochet\, many forms of embroidery and other handwork. She received her doctorate from Cornell University and is a contributing author to Piecework Magazine\, a leading publication that explores the history of needlework and the stories of traditional makers.\nKaren will take program participants back in time as she recounts the twists and turns involved in deciphering a knitting pattern that dates to the late 1800s. Like many handwork crafts\, this knitted-mitten pattern connected five generations of family members.\nDuring the program\, Exclusive Tours staff will bring groups of participants behind the scenes to view handwork treasures from our own Center of the West vaults. Using this family heirloom pattern and artifacts from the Center of the West’s collections\, Karen weaves the story of women bringing handwork traditions westward as they searched for new lives.\nTickets for this program include the guest’s choice of receiving either a knitting kit or a crochet kit curated by Karista Low\, owner of Cody’s own Wyoming Yarn & Fiber. These kits feature 100g of 100% American grown and processed yarn from Nature Spun along with the necessary handwork tools for each project. The knitting kit includes the step-by-step instructions for Karen’s “Lost Mitten” pattern while the crochet kit includes instructions for a shawl pattern that Karen recreated from a historic costume in the Whitney Western Art Museum’s collection.\nAfter the main program ends\, participants can try their own hand at recreating historic textiles with these curated handcraft kits. A variety of teas\, small desserts\, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for participants to enjoy during this crafting time.\nDon’t miss this exciting and exclusive afternoon!\nThis Deluxe Exclusive Tours & Toddies is $60 per person\, and just $55 for Center of the West members. Spots are limited! Advanced registration is required.\nRegister online at tickets.centerofthewest.org\, by calling 307-254-7073\, or by e-mailing tours@centerofthewest.org. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.
