This educational class provides beginner to advanced artists personalized instruction and fellowship with returning BBAS artist\, Sally Maxwell.\nSally has been working in Scratchboard for over 58 years\, 53 of those using color in the medium. The International Society of Scratchboard Artists as well as the American Women Artists have recognized her as a Master. She is also a Signature member of the Society of Animal Artists. She was appointed to the Board of Directors of AWA in 2024. She has won numerous awards in multiple Museum and juried art shows nationally. Recently she won the Award of Excellence in the AWA annual show\, and was the highest priced bid at BBAS for “Nuance” in 2024. Through her close association with Ampersand Art Materials\, she has taught a generation of artists how to use the medium. Currently her artwork was featured in the Society of Animal Artists show in 2024 and will be again in 2025. She will be shown in the annual juried show with AWA for 2025 as well. She was shown in the Briscoe Museum’s show “Night of Artists” this year. Once you have seen her work up close\, you will never forget it. \nReservations Required. Michael and Kathleen Gear know the animals well\, since they owned Red Canyon Buffalo Ranch near Thermopolis for thirty years. This presentation uses paleontological\, archaeological\, and historical evidence to establish when and where bison were during that time\, but it will focus on the fascinating behavior they observed living with buffalo for three decades.\nAbout the speakers\nMichael and Kathleen Gear are nationally award-winning archaeologists and New York Times bestselling authors with 18 million copies in print. They have published 88 books and over 200 non-fiction articles that have been translated into 30 languages. Fifty of those articles are bison studies. Their bison have won 167 national or regional bison awards\, and they have won 42 national and international writing awards.\nJointly or separately\, they’ve been inducted into four halls of fame: the Western Writers Hall of Fame\, the Women Who Write the West Hall of Fame\, the Colorado Authors Hall of Fame\, and the California State University Hall of Fame. As well\, in 2015 they were honored by the United States Congress with a “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition.” They received the Owen Wister Award for lifetime achievement in western literature in 2021\, and in 2023 received the Frank Waters Award for exemplary literary achievement that embodies the spirit of the American West.
