SUMMARY:Deluxe Tours and Toddies: First Frost
DESCRIPTION:First Frost\, with Craig Johnson\, Danny Michael\, and Sybil Tubbs\nThey’re back and better than ever!\nJoin Exclusive Tours on Saturday\, February 22 at 6 p.m. for a Deluxe Tours & Toddies event\, featuring Craig Johnson\, author of the Longmire Series\, and Danny Michael\, Robert W. Woodruff Curator of the Cody Firearms Museum. They’ll bring you on an unforgettable evening of history and intrigue as they talk about Johnson’s 20th Longmire novel: First Frost.\nCraig and Danny will blend the thrilling stories of Sheriff Walt Longmire with fascinating firearms history as they bring you back in time with Walt and Henry Standing Bear. As recent college graduates who enlist to serve in the Vietnam War\, these western characters find themselves in quite a pickle near an abandoned internment camp on their way to report for duty.\nSybil Tubbs\, Education Coordinator for the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center\, will also join Craig and Danny during this evening’s showcase to highlight these pivotal events in our western history and how they crisscross with popular culture today.\nDuring the evening’s program\, Danny will showcase original artifacts from the Cody Firearms Museum collection and Sybil will share stories about Wyoming’s own internment camp. This evening program will include a Q&A session where participants can ask questions\, your co-hosts can shoot the breeze\, and we all dive into the Longmire Universe.\nAfter the Q&A\, guests can enjoy custom charcuterie and adult beverages. Participants can also get their Longmire books signed by Craig Johnson as the evening winds down. If you don’t have your own copy of First Frost yet\, you can find them at the Center of the West’s Points West Market.\nSpots are limited at this Deluxe Tours and Toddies event! Advanced registration is required. SUMMARY:Deluxe Tours and Toddies Workshop: Women’s Handwork in the West
DESCRIPTION:Explore how women’s hands shaped the history of the American West\, crafting both survival and art in every stitch!\nJoin Exclusive Tours and Wyoming Yarn & Fiber on Saturday\, March 8th at 2p.m. for a Deluxe Tours & Toddies event at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. This program features author and expert craftswoman Dr. Karen Penders St. Clair who will guide participants in exploring the history and modern role of Women’s Handwork in the West.\nKaren is a history enthusiast and fourth-generation needleworker proficient in knitting\, crochet\, many forms of embroidery and other handwork. She received her doctorate from Cornell University and is a contributing author to Piecework Magazine\, a leading publication that explores the history of needlework and the stories of traditional makers.\nKaren will take program participants back in time as she recounts the twists and turns involved in deciphering a knitting pattern that dates to the late 1800s. Like many handwork crafts\, this knitted-mitten pattern connected five generations of family members.\nDuring the program\, Exclusive Tours staff will bring groups of participants behind the scenes to view handwork treasures from our own Center of the West vaults. Using this family heirloom pattern and artifacts from the Center of the West’s collections\, Karen weaves the story of women bringing handwork traditions westward as they searched for new lives.\nTickets for this program include the guest’s choice of receiving either a knitting kit or a crochet kit curated by Karista Low\, owner of Cody’s own Wyoming Yarn & Fiber. These kits feature 100g of 100% American grown and processed yarn from Nature Spun along with the necessary handwork tools for each project. The knitting kit includes the step-by-step instructions for Karen’s “Lost Mitten” pattern while the crochet kit includes instructions for a shawl pattern that Karen recreated from a historic costume in the Whitney Western Art Museum’s collection.\nAfter the main program ends\, participants can try their own hand at recreating historic textiles with these curated handcraft kits. A variety of teas\, small desserts\, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for participants to enjoy during this crafting time.\nDon’t miss this exciting and exclusive afternoon!\nThis Deluxe Exclusive Tours & Toddies is $60 per person\, and just $55 for Center of the West members. Spots are limited! Advanced registration is required.\nRegister online at tickets.centerofthewest.org\, by calling 307-254-7073\, or by e-mailing tours@centerofthewest.org. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.
