Words are the 3D printer of your reality. In the “write” hands\, rearranging the same 26 letters can create any spectacular life you imagine. This workshop shares many creative ways to conjure words from thin air and turn them into abundant physical reality. Mike has sold two million words as a reporter\, columnist\, editor\, publisher\, freelancer\, author\, blogger\, and entrepreneur\, earning financial and time freedom in the process. WorldsBestWriter.com \n• Callie Ann Atkinson\nWriting from Historical Documents\nWapiti Room\, 9:15 AM (60 minutes)\nIn this workshop\, Callie Ann will lead participants through a series of writing exercises using historical documents as inspiration. This is a generative workshop for those who are interested in history and research and writing historical stories. Using her own writing and writing process as examples\, she will help participants pull material from newspapers to create a historical atmosphere for their story. Participants will learn to pay attention to the small details and to use them in creative ways within the scenes of their story. Participants will have the opportunity to share their writing with other participants. \n• Callie Ann Atkinson\nWriting Family Stories\nWapiti Room\, 10:15 AM (60 minutes)\nDo you have a family story or stories that you have been wanting to write down? In this workshop\, participants will tap into stories of their family and retell those stories on the page. This is a generative workshop class in which participants will learn techniques for turning family stories into fiction stories. She will use her own writing as examples and teach participants ways to give themselves permission to be creative with their stories\, while staying true to the real aspects of the story. \n• Cathy Ringler\nEveryone Has a Story\nBison Room\, 9:15 AM (90 minutes)\nEveryone has a story to tell. Everyone is a writer; some are written in books and some are confined to the heart.—Savi Sharma. Are you ready to write that story for your grandchildren? Are you pondering a piece for a newsletter or an entry in the Wyoming Writer’s annual contest? In this 90-minute workshop\, you’ll be provided with tips on characterization\, dialog\, and voice which will help you draft a powerful personal narrative. Come equipped with a laptop or notebook\, a compelling memory\, and be ready to write! \n• Michael B. Riley\nStructuring Memoir\nGrizzly Hall\, 10:15 AM (60 minutes)\nThe class will discuss how the content of a memoir dictates its structure and how revision plays a crucial role in arriving at the truths inside the author’s narrative. Timelines\, themes\, voices\, and transitions will be defined and analyzed to help determine structural integrity. \n• Linda Rae Sande\nI Wrote a Book – Now What Do I Do?\nBison Room\, 10:45 AM (75 minutes)\nIn today’s publishing world\, an author must be an entrepreneur. Here are the how-tos for building the team and the tools you’ll need to help bring your book to market. We’ll cover some basics about setting up your author business and finding the people you’ll need for editing\, cover design\, and formatting\, organizing your database of information\, and publishing to various retailers. We’ll end the time covering the promotional tasks necessary to get the word out about your book—an author website\, newsletter\, and low-cost promotional sites to help with discoverability—and finally\, protecting your work! SUMMARY:Preparing Communities for Wildfire Resilience
DESCRIPTION:FREE Event Friday January 31\, 2025 4:30-7:30pm\nJoin the Greater Yellowstone Fire Action Network (GYFAN)\, in partnership with our Draper Natural History Museum and Shoshone National Forest\, for this free event\, Preparing Communities for Wildfire Resilience\, on Friday\, January 31 starting at 4:30 p.m.\nEveryone has a role to play in preparing for a fire event. When a community works together and becomes what we refer to as a fire adapted community “FAC\,” collectively we can be more prepared to adapt to wildfire. Come meet members of the Greater Yellowstone Fire Action Network and learn ways you can help promote fire on the landscape as an ecosystem restoration tool.\n• 4:30–7:30 p.m. Explore a fire truck! A Forest Service fire truck will be parked at the front entrance to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.\n• 5–6 p.m. Enjoy a screening of the film The Fire Problem in our Coe Auditorium. The film is a great historical account of fire in the West. Following the film\, GYFAN members and Shoshone National Forest fire staff will take questions and listen to perspectives on all things wildfire.\n• 6–7:30 p.m. – Smokey Bear joins us for the first 30-minutes of this open house after the film screening!\nThe Greater Yellowstone Fire Action Network (GYFAN) formed to address challenges communities and the landscape face with wildfire. Our network members and partners aim for a cultural shift in how we view and respond to fire. This shift can help save lives\, properties and help keep the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem thriving.\nFrom home hardening and fire’s role on the landscape\, to being smoke ready or even a volunteer neighborhood fire and smoke  ambassador\, we will be engaging with you about all things wildland fire. We are stewards of the forests. There are risks—and benefits—to wildfire. Let’s all work together to live with wildfire.\nThe goal of our network is to promote fire adapted communities across the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem and support a fire resilient landscape. Our network shares resources and knowledge across three states to mitigate fire on the ground and connect communities\, mitigation practitioners\, and fire agencies.  This networking aims to increase knowledge sharing\, capacity and the social capital needed to increase the pace and scale of fuels reduction work within and around communities at risk to wildfire. It also aims to promote fire on the landscape as an ecosystem restoration tool.\nWe must all be prepared to LIVE with wildfire and smoke. If a wildfire is burning\, it does not always mean destruction and devastation. It can often mean new life.  The 1988 Yellowstone fire taught us that.\nIt’s not IF a wildfire is going to happen\, it’s WHEN. Are you ready? \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.
