SUMMARY:Notable Women of Heart Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Our annual Winter Program Series is back with three more fantastic events! Our second program focuses on notable women of Heart Mountain. \nThe mass confinement of Japanese Americans during WWII effectively reduced the identities of more than 120\,000 people down to a stereotyped idea of their heritage. However\, many found ways to push back. This presentation follows the stories of three women from the Heart Mountain camp who stepped forward as community leaders and advocates during and after WWII. \nThe Winter Program Series is an annual series of presentations that take place throughout January\, February\, and March. Check out our other events to see dates and descriptions for the other two programs. \nAll events in this series are free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated! \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:Tours & Toddies – Conserving the Collection
DESCRIPTION:Join Buffalo Bill Center of the West Chief Conservator Beverly Perkins on March 8th for another deep dive into the care and preservation that goes into our world-renowned collections.\nOur Tours and Toddies guests had so much fun learning and engaging with the collection during last year’s Conservation Tours & Toddies that they requested a Part 2. So here it is! \nWhat happens to our priceless artifacts if a natural disaster strikes? Do you have a plan for protecting your precious items? As a certified AIC-CERT emergency responder for cultural institutions\, Beverly Perkins coordinated the AIC volunteer response to Hurricane Katrina and assisted in artifact recovery after the 2010 Haiti earthquake\, along with several other artifact care and recovery missions during her 38 years as a conservator. \nHere at the Center of the West\, we believe in preserving the past for future generations\, and that’s why this event includes a special focus on safeguarding artifacts in the face of natural disasters. During her Tours & Toddies event\, Bev will share the Center of the West’s plan for preserving artifacts if/when calamity hits and even provide tips for preparing for your own recovery relief efforts. \nAnd if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to (literally) piece together history\, this event is for you! Attendees will also receive hands-on learning in ceramic conservation at this event.\nAt the end of the tour\, Bev will bring guests back to the Exclusive Tours Depot for additional Q&A\, custom charcuterie\, and adult beverages. \nDon’t miss this exciting and exclusive evening with one of the best! \nThis VIP Exclusive Tours and Toddies experience is $60/person\, and just $55/person for Center of the West members. SUMMARY:Local Lore: Winter Expedition through Yellowstone
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the March in our “Local Lore with Bob Richard” series of free talks hosted by our McCracken Research Library. \nFor this illustrated presentation\, Bob Richard presents A Winter Expedition through Yellowstone. He recounts the story of and shares photographs from a winter trip in the park in 1955\, when Bob was a senior in high school. Organized by Bob’s father\, Jack Richard\, the weeklong excursion undertaken with ski planes also included the editor of the Cody Enterprise\, Larry Morrison\, and three Wyoming Game & Fish Department wardens. Starting from Jackson\, the group toured Yellowstone’s south loop—from the south entrance to Old Faithful (where they met District Ranger Bob Murphy)\, on to Madison Junction\, Norris\, and then over to the Canyon and Lake areas\, and then back out the south entrance. \nWith a wealth of knowledge about the Cody and Yellowstone National Park areas\, Bob has a lifetime of stories to share with future generations. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.
