SUMMARY:Exclusive Tours & Trails: Castle Rock
DESCRIPTION:Join us on an adventure into history with our next Exclusive Tours and Trails event on May 19\, 2024! \nExclusive Tours staff is teaming up with renowned artist and Cody local Mike C. Poulsen to bring visitors into the beautiful vistas and historic trails of the American West\, including the astounding geological feature known as Castle Rock. \nRising over 6000ft\, Castle Rock stands out in the beautiful Southfork Valley and was used as a geographical marker for Native Americans and explorers alike. Mike Poulsen grew up on his family ranch in the shadow of Castle Rock\, and he will share history and anecdotes that only a great storyteller with first-hand knowledge of the area could tell. With Poulsen as our guide\, this Tours and Trails will traverse scenic paths that mountain men like John Colter traveled while exploring the Big Horn Basin and lands that would become Yellowstone National Park. \nThis isn’t just a walk—it’s an interactive hike through time that will get your feet moving! Engage with your guides\, ask questions\, enjoy the views\, and join a trek that brings history to life. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a nature enthusiast\, this tour caters to all levels of expertise and covers 3.5 miles of walking with elevation gains of less than 500ft. \nThis Tours & Trails event begins at the Center of the West at 1 p.m. on May 19th (rain date is May 26). We’ll trace the footsteps of native peoples\, homesteaders\, and pioneers that left their marks across the area. We expect to return to the Center around 5:30 p.m. or a bit later. \nSo immerse yourself in the serenity of the great outdoors\, unplug from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature in the company of fellow adventurers and history lovers.\nJoin us on this extraordinary hiking tour to Castle Rock\, where every step is a step closer to nature’s wonders! Lace up your trekking boots\, bring your sense of adventure\, and don’t let this one-of-a-kind journey through history pass you by. \nRegistration is required as limited spots are available for this Exclusive Tours & Trails event. To secure your spot\, visit tickets.centerofthewest.org\, call/text (307) 254-7073\, or email tours@centerofthewest.org. \nCost is $70 for members or $75 for non-members\nShared transportation to the trailhead is available\, and participants can enjoy complimentary trail snacks\, water\, and hiking poles for the duration of the event. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:Thurmond Family Historic Photos First Week of Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Three years ago\, members of the Thurmond Family donated more than 350 scanned glass negative photos to the Park County Archives that were taken between 1899-1912 by Carol Thurmond Wills’ grandfather\, Charles Philip Thurmond. A majority of the photos were taken where he and his family homesteaded in Marquette and on the North Fork. In addition to a few typical posed group photos\, the collection includes “action” photos that reveal daily ranch life at that time. One photo also shows a July 4th celebration in Cody more than one hundred years ago.\nThe Thurmond family is delighted that the Park County Archives has selected the Thurmond Family collection (Charles Philip Thurmond Family Trust copyright) to print and frame forty-seven (47) of the photos for the June exhibit.\nThe exhibit will begin on Wednesday\, June 5th and end on June 30th.\nCome see them during Library Hours\nM-Th 9:00 am – 7:00 pm\nF-Sat 9:00 am – 5:00 pm  \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.
