SUMMARY:The Mend – Kickoff and Movie Night
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Cody Alliance Church to kick off our new fly-fishing program called The Mend! This is a chance to register\, learn more about the program and get any questions answered. Mike Arnold and Dave Engelhardt\, heading this program will be there for introductions and to welcome any interested parties.\nWe will be showing the Movie Mending the Line starring Perry Mattfeld\, Brian Coxin and Patricia Heaton. An American drama where a wounded Marine coming home from Afghanistan is adjusting to civilian life. He gets sent to a V.A. facility in Montana where he acquaints with a Vietnam Vet who teaches him the valuable healing properties of fly-fishing.\nThis film is not child friendly due to some combat scenes and profanity. We filtered and censored out the language\, but there are a couple of combat scenes. Childcare will be provided down the hall where they will have their own activities. Lets face it\, going through trauma\, going through war\, protecting your community is not kosher; it’s not pretty. This film is authentic\, bringing to light the reality of PTSD. That is our goal with this new program: to tackle trauma and provide different ways to heal.\nKickoff night open to all Veterans\, First Responders and their families. The program itself is only for those who served in uniform. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Brad Orstead
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to spend an evening with author and filmmaker Brad Orsted. Brad Orsted is an award-winning wildlife and conservation filmmaker/photographer\, author\, speaker and wilderness therapy instructor. Brad’s work has appeared on Nat Geo Wild\, The BBC\, PBS\, Nature\, The Washington Post and Smithsonian Channel. Brad’s most recent film\, “The Beast of Our Time: Grizzly Bears and Climate Change” is narrated by none other than The Dude\, Jeff Bridges. \nFifty-years-in-the-making\, The Beast of Our Time interviews top scientists\, advocates\, authors\, ranchers\, and indigenous poets to investigate the catastrophic effects of climate change on grizzlies and their habitat. The film is both a dire warning and a compelling call to action to advocate for habitat\, connectivity\, tolerance\, wildlife crossings\, and room to roam. The film recently won Best Environmental Film Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival. \nBrad’s first memoir\, Through the Wilderness: My Journey of Redemption and Healing in the American Wild\, was released in June\, 2023. The evening will include a viewing of his short film “The Beast of our Time…” along with a short reading from his memoir and a Q&A. This event is free to the public.\nThe doors will open at 6:30PM. Books will be available for purchase at the event and Brad will be signing them for guests. \nThis event is brought to you by Cub Creek Photography (Amy Gerber) in cooperation with The Cody Theater and Legends Bookstore. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:Geology Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:The geologic wonders of this region don’t stop at the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park! The 50-mile trip to Yellowstone from Cody\, Wyoming\, takes you past world-renown geology that goes unnoticed by most. \nJoin the Draper Natural History Museum for a roadside geology tour led by Larry Oliveria\, host of the YouTube series Layers with Larry\, and Digital and Outreach Educator\, George Miller. Your hosts use a combination of hands-on objects\, geologic maps\, and the breathtaking scenery of the North Fork to make this high-caliber program memorable. \nThis four-hour field trip is designed for the student in all of us\, starting and ending at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and transporting you through 2.5 billion years of geologic history in the interim. Intended for an audience of age 18 and older\, this programmatic offering is more than just a field trip—it’s an opportunity to gain intimate knowledge of your backyard! \nAlthough there is limited hiking or walking on this tour\, be prepared to get in and out of vehicles at six geologic stops. Water will be available\, but we ask you to bring a water bottle to help cut down on waste. \nThis field trip is limited to a maximum of eight people\, so register as soon as possible to secure your spot. Members and students are $65; non-members are $85. \nDue to the limited space\, this field trip is fully refundable until 48 hours before the date of your tour. After 48 hours\, 50 percent of the ticket price is refundable. Transportation is provided by the Center of the West. \nREGISTER NOW \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:Poster Art Exhibition Opens
DESCRIPTION:We excited to open our newest special exhibition\, “Advertising the Frontier Myth: Poster Art of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West\,” to the public on Saturday\, May 18\, at 8 a.m. Viewing the exhibition is included in the price of admission (free for Center members). \nThe posters that advertised the thrilling performances of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West used compelling images to attract spectators. From small to very large-scale\, the posters often papered the walls of buildings\, making it impossible to miss that the Wild West was coming to town. \nThis exhibition shares from our large Wild West poster collection. See the exciting imagery of skilled riders on horseback\, sharpshooters performing impressive tricks\, dramatic reenactments of both the real and mythic moments in western American history. These posters\, in fact\, influenced the first—and lasting—impressions of the fascinating spectacle. \nThe exhibition is based on the award-winning book\, “Art and Advertising in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West” (2019)\, by guest curator Dr. Michelle Anne Delaney of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian. \n“Advertising the Frontier Myth” opens in our Anne & Charles Duncan Special Exhibition Gallery on May 18 and runs through October 24\, 2024. The exhibition is supported with partial funding by Wyoming Humanities. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.
