SUMMARY:An Evening with Brad Orstead
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to spend an evening with author and filmmaker Brad Orsted. Brad Orsted is an award-winning wildlife and conservation filmmaker/photographer\, author\, speaker and wilderness therapy instructor. Brad’s work has appeared on Nat Geo Wild\, The BBC\, PBS\, Nature\, The Washington Post and Smithsonian Channel. Brad’s most recent film\, “The Beast of Our Time: Grizzly Bears and Climate Change” is narrated by none other than The Dude\, Jeff Bridges. \nFifty-years-in-the-making\, The Beast of Our Time interviews top scientists\, advocates\, authors\, ranchers\, and indigenous poets to investigate the catastrophic effects of climate change on grizzlies and their habitat. The film is both a dire warning and a compelling call to action to advocate for habitat\, connectivity\, tolerance\, wildlife crossings\, and room to roam. The film recently won Best Environmental Film Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival. \nBrad’s first memoir\, Through the Wilderness: My Journey of Redemption and Healing in the American Wild\, was released in June\, 2023. The evening will include a viewing of his short film “The Beast of our Time…” along with a short reading from his memoir and a Q&A. This event is free to the public.\nThe doors will open at 6:30PM. Books will be available for purchase at the event and Brad will be signing them for guests. \nThis event is brought to you by Cub Creek Photography (Amy Gerber) in cooperation with The Cody Theater and Legends Bookstore. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

SUMMARY:Author Talk: J.T. Currie
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Grizzly Hall at the Cody Library on Saturday\, May 11th at 10:00 a.m. for an engaging author talk featuring local writer J.T. Currie. \nHailing from Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania\, Currie’s diverse background as a boxer and a Cavalry Scout in the United States Army serves as the wellspring of inspiration for his compelling novels. His journey into writing began in 2011 with an old typewriter birthday gift\, leading to the publication of his debut fiction novel\, “The Lords of Greenfield\,” on Amazon in 2023. He has since penned three more books\, including “We Three that Be and the Dashboard Jesus\,” “The Carny\,” and his latest release\, “The Devil in Darlington.” \nNow calling Meeteetse home\, Currie is known to his neighbors as “The madman of Warren Street” as he tirelessly pursues the goal of crafting the next great American novel. \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on an adventure into history with our next Exclusive Tours and Trails event on May 19\, 2024! \nExclusive Tours staff is teaming up with renowned artist and Cody local Mike C. Poulsen to bring visitors into the beautiful vistas and historic trails of the American West\, including the astounding geological feature known as Castle Rock. \nRising over 6000ft\, Castle Rock stands out in the beautiful Southfork Valley and was used as a geographical marker for Native Americans and explorers alike. SUMMARY:Buffalo Gals Luncheon: Food Sovereignty on the Wind River Reservation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a delicious luncheon and presentation by Kelly Pingree and Livy Lewis\, both of the Center for Popular Research\, Education\, and Policy; and the Wind River Food Sovereignty Project. They present Food Sovereignty on the Wind River Reservation. \nSeating is limited and reservations are required. Cost is just $25 for Buffalo Bill Center of the West members and $35 for non-members. Reserve your seat today online or by calling 307-578-4008. \nThe Wind River Food Sovereignty Project started in 2018 as a community-led program dedicated to increasing access to fresh\, healthy food on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. In an effort to address high rates of food insecurity and diet-related disease\, the project promotes community food production and supports Native food producers to improve community health. Youth education programs and workshops on food preservation\, gardening\, and harvesting reconnect community members with traditional foodways and regenerative growing practices. Join Co-Directors Kelly Pingree and Livy Lewis to learn about the project’s exciting new endeavor: building a demonstration farm and community learning center on the Wind River Reservation to promote food sovereignty. \nBUY TICKETS HERE \nCody Calendar advertisers make this calendar possible. \n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.
