DESCRIPTION:Join us for five weeks of dance lessons with Mark Fisher and Jill Roberts. Cha Cha is a partner dance done to a variety of music that includes Rock\, Country\, Latin\, Pop\, and R&B. Most bands and DJs play songs that are perfect for Cha Cha like the modern Country song “7 Summers’” by Morgan Wallen\, the Latin song “Havana” by Camila Cabello\, and R&B song “My Girl” by The Temptations. These classes are structured as a package that will gradually build skills\, patterns and confidence. It is one of our favorite dances and hopefully it will become your favorite dance too. Aura Sunada Newlin\, Executive Director of Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation\, celebrates their legacy of empathy\, courage\, and cooperation in the newly opened Mineta-Simpson Institute.\nAbout our speaker\nAura Sunada Newlin is a fourth-generation Wyomingite\, fourth-generation Japanese American\, and the Executive Director for the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation (HMWF). Her heritage involves intertwined stories of imprisonment at Heart Mountain; segregated military service; and hardships suffered by railroaders who were fired because of their Japanese ancestry. She was previously a faculty member at both the University of Wyoming and Northwest College.\nBorn and raised in Riverton\, Aura earned a BA in ethnomusicology from the University of Wyoming and an MA in medical anthropology from Case Western Reserve University. Now focusing on the anthropology of law\, she is a PhD candidate at Case Western Reserve University. DESCRIPTION:Chris La Tray is a Métis storyteller\, a descendent of the Pembina Band of the mighty Red River of the North\, and an enrolled member of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians. His third book\, “Becoming Little Shell: A Landless Indian’s Journey Home”\, was published on August 20\, 2024. His first book\, “One-Sentence Journal: Short Poems and Essays from the World at Large”\, won the 2018 Montana Book Award and a 2019 High Plains Book Award. His book of haiku and haibun poetry\, “Descended from a Travel-worn Satchel”\, was published in 2021 by Foothills Publishing.\nChris also writes the weekly newsletter “An Irritable Métis” and lives near Frenchtown\, Montana.
