SUMMARY:Art Workshop at the Draper Natural History Museum
DESCRIPTION:Many Ways to Look Closely at the Land\nLearn how to observe like a naturalist, write like a poet and contribute to a public artwork!\nDrop in between 9 am-12 pm or 1 pm – 3 pm for any amount of time. The workshop will be held in the lower rotunda of the Draper Natural History Museum. All materials are provided.\nAlongside artist Austen Camille, you will get close to specimens from the Draper Natural History Museum collection—insects, reptiles, mammals, birds—and learn more about their roles and relationships in the local sagebrush landscape.\nYou will also have the opportunity to contribute your observations to a new public artwork located at The Nature Conservancy’s Heart Mountain Ranch Preserve outside of Cody. Draper Museum staff and Nature Conservancy staff will be present to answer your questions about the specimens and the sagebrush ecosystem.\nAbout the Artist\nAusten Camille is a Canadian-American artist who makes site-responsive, community-engaged public work that aims to build relationships with local environments. Her work has been commissioned and exhibited in a diverse range of landscapes, from the northern Wyoming rivers to the high desert of eastern Oregon, from the rolling farmland in southern Wisconsin to the tidal estuary marshes along the Hudson River. Camille is the founder of public art and design studio, Shared Field Studio, and the co-founder of the Flyway Institute, an organization dedicated to cultivating community and connectivity among flyways, foodways, and folkways through the arts and land stewardship.\n\nCody Journal advertisers make this calendar possible.\n\n\n
